Just came back from bar night with the girls, so just wanted to do a quick update of what we did in the past two days!
On Monday, we started Spanish lessons from 9am-1pm (yawn!). They're long and boring but it's something we have to suffer through in order to be able to communicate while we stay in Lima because there aren't many people who are able to speak and/or understand Spanish. I've been using my own form of sign language for the time being, with a lot of "muchos gracias (thank you very much)" and "la cuenta por favor! (the check please!)" Anyways, in the afternoon we went to Huaca Pucllana which is only about 5-10 mins away from our home. Huaca Pucllana is an ancient ruin that archeologist recently discovered which they believed to be a religious and administrative center for the Incan people. It was really interesting because the entire area was built from hand-made bricks made out of mud, stones and seashells. What's more interesting is that the entire area was built to withstand earthquakes and tsunamis. There are purposely spaces in between bricks in order to absorb shock when an earthquake hits.
At night, some of the girls and I started a very intense game of Spanish Monopoly which almost had me bankrupt! Thankfully, the game was interrupted by our late night run/exercise!
On Tuesday, we began with Spanish lessons once again and in the afternoon we went to the National Museum of Lima, where we saw the Shining Path Special Exhibit. There, we learned a lot about the history of Lima's past and all the people have been through. It was a heartbreaking experience and I've began to see the entire city in a new light. Despite all the obstacles they've had to overcome just 10 years ago, the city is vibrant, hopeful and to be honest is not as 3rd world as is perceived in Western countries. At night, some of the girls and I went out for drinks and tried their Sangria, which was SO STRONG! all I tasted was red wine... damn Peruvians and their insane alcohol tolerance!
Well that's it for now, here are some photos from Monday's journey:

This is a breed of dog that the Incas domesticated at the time. He feels like a pig, but dog with huge balls

Our first llama encounter, looks like this one was freshly shaved for a nice coat ;) AHAH

Our view from the bar right off the beach tonight. The cross was built a couple of years ago, as a gift to John Paul II (Lima is mostly Catholic)
